We were a group of three women in our 70s traveling together. Our guide was also in his 70s; his explanations were very clear, he was easy to talk to, and he answered all our questions, making for a very rewarding hour-and-a-half tour. Since it was our first time visiting Izumo Taisha, we were especially delighted and grateful. We highly recommend this tour to everyone.

Finally, I really appreciated that you recommended a soba restaurant for lunch and explained the system where we could write our names down in advance—it allowed us to eat smoothly without having to wait in line. This was my first time visiting Izumo Taisha. The guide assigned to me was incredibly warm and taught me so much with great care. He was such a wonderful person that even other tourists stopped to speak to him during the tour, and he made my solo trip absolutely amazing. We had requested a tour that took us through the four torii gates to the grounds of Izumo Taisha, and our guide, Mr. Wada, not only explained the grounds and the torii gates but also shared insights ranging from the bronze statues and reliefs near our meeting point to the legends of Izumo Okuni and the “Kunibiki” myth, and even the brief history of the roads and bridges we were walking along from the former Taisha Station. Thanks to this, even the walk to Izumo Taisha was incredibly enjoyable. Although I hadn’t researched the area around Izumo Taisha at all beforehand, he taught me everything from ancient folklore to local history that connects to the present, and the fascinating and entertaining stories never ceased. Once we entered the grounds of Izumo Taisha, he explained the shrines themselves, the legends surrounding the statues erected there, and archaeological discoveries related to Izumo Taisha in the past—all things I wouldn’t have learned just by walking by or through a quick online search. Not only did this deepen my understanding, but I was also taught how to worship properly, the roles of each shrine, and the appropriate prayers and etiquette for each. I feel I was able to pay my respects and pray without offending the deities, which was truly wonderful. I also learned about events still held at Izumo Taisha today, and the guide touched on modern topics—such as the relationship between the Emperor, Izumo Taisha, and the Chief Priest—which I found truly insightful. Along the way, the guide made sure to set aside ample time for us to hydrate, purchase amulets, and pay our respects at the various shrines. Although it was crowded due to Silver Week and we went slightly over the scheduled tour time, I was very happy that the guide provided a thorough explanation all the way to the final stop at the Kagura Hall. Even in the latter half of the tour, the guide never rushed us; instead, they spoke carefully about each point, weaving in references to our backgrounds and experiences, which made it a pleasure to listen to the entire time. My partner also found the commentary just as fascinating and enjoyable as I did, and was particularly impressed by how beautifully the guide recited the children’s songs along the way. Mr. Wada has such a wonderful personality and guided us with a constant smile, allowing both of us to enjoy the tour from start to finish. This has become an unforgettable and wonderful memory of Shimane for both of us, and we feel truly blessed to have had this wonderful connection. Thank you so much.

During our meeting the day before, we were told that—since it was the first day of Silver Week—there would be traffic restrictions and it might be difficult to find parking, but thanks to that information, we were able to park without any trouble.
